Para que las c\u00e9lulas de nuestro cuerpo puedan aprovechar la glucosa, es fundamental contar con insulina, una hormona producida por el p\u00e1ncreas. La sintomatolog\u00eda de la diabetes tipo 2 suele ser muy sutil y pasar desapercibida mucho tiempo, no es infrecuente que el diagn\u00f3stico se produzca tras una revisi\u00f3n m\u00e9dica rutinaria sin sospecharse inicialmente. La insulina es la encargada de transportar al interior de las c\u00e9lulas la glucosa que obtenemos de los alimentos (hidratos de carbono), el combustible principal del organismo. Se diagnostica cuando los niveles de glucosa (\u201caz\u00facar\u201d) en sangre superan unos determinados valores.<\/p>\n
Los antiguos y confusos t\u00e9rminos de DM insulinodependiente y no insulinodependiente desaparecen y se conservan los de DM tipo 1 y tipo 2.
